I thought I would add the author comment for the week and give some brief commentary on what is going on in the story. Have you ever wondered how exactly the neuromancers created the artificial minds for the homunculi in Col. Galen’s program? Or how Helix and the other philosophers attempt to evolve them, or keep them stable? Basically that’s the process that you are watching right now. A homunculus like Adam is “programmed” through manipulation of images on the astral plane. And Helix, knowing something was wrong, left a special little program in Adam’s artificial mind, just in case…
We are using classical imagery from Qabalah and the Western Mystery Tradition to convey exactly what Helix is doing in some detail. If you want to follow along you can use a standard reference work like Dion Fortune’s book the "Mystic Qabalah" or Gareth Knigh "A Practical Guide to Qabalistic Symbolism" to decode exactly where we are going with this.
So for instance, the tarot card that Helix used to trigger this vision was the Nine of Swords. Typically that card stands for destruction. But the suit of swords also corresponds to the realm of images or illusions. So in this case the card really represents the destruction of an illusion, specifically the lie that Adam is primarily loyal to Galen and his weapons program. There are lots of other symbols that you can break down in the same way, and they will tell you something about Adam’s (and to a lesser extent Helix’s) evolution and spiritual journey as he becomes an independent being with a real soul. But if you want to ignore all of the fancy alchemical stuff and just read the story, it will work that way as well.
Thanks for all of your support!
P.S. I wonder if there is a William Blake quote in there and what that is all about?

I love all the clever references in this (today's quote is from the Proverbs of Hell, yes?) - especially Galen's name. Of course, the art's lovely as well!
